The APA has produced guidelines for using ChatGPT. Quoting ChatGPT’s text from a session is like sharing an algorithm’s output. In general, cite ChatGPT as a software program. Please defer to your instructor's guidelines on using AI when writing your papers.
Example:

As with APA, MLA is developing policies. MLA states that AI should not be listed as an author rather you should describe what was generated by the AI tool, the software used, the date retrieved and url. Again, please defer to your instructor's guidelines regarding AI use in your paper.
